Safety

Your safety is the first thing we design for.

The Malecare peer mentor program exists to reduce isolation and give patients and caregivers someone to talk to who has been there. To make that safe, we hold to a few clear boundaries.

Our boundaries

Peer support, not medical care

Our mentors are patients and caregivers who share what they've lived through. They do not diagnose, recommend treatment, or replace your healthcare team. Always speak with your doctor about medical decisions.

Not an emergency service

We do not respond to urgent or crisis situations. If you or someone you love is in immediate danger or experiencing a mental health crisis, call 911 or 988 right away.

One mentor at a time

You contact one mentor at a time. This protects mentor capacity and keeps the program safe and respectful.

Private by design

Your name and contact details stay hidden until you choose to share them. The first introduction message is sent through an anonymous relay.

Report any concern

If a mentor gives medical advice, makes you uncomfortable, doesn't respond, or anything feels wrong — report it. We automatically pause that mentor and offer you a new match.

What mentors agree to

Every Malecare peer mentor agrees: "I understand my role is to offer emotional support and share my personal prostate cancer or caregiving experience. I will not give medical advice, diagnosis, treatment recommendations, or emergency support. I will encourage patients and caregivers to speak with their healthcare team before making medical decisions."
