Your privacy is our priority.
Talking about a cancer diagnosis is deeply personal. Here is how we protect what you share with Malecare and with your matched mentor.
Your name and contact details stay private
Mentors only see what you choose to share. Your first message to a mentor is delivered through an anonymous relay. Your name, email, phone, and other contact details stay hidden until the mentor accepts your introduction and you decide to share them.
Mentors see only what they need to
When a mentor receives your introduction, they see only your message and your reason for seeking support. They do not see your full intake form, contact details, or match score.
Email notifications never contain health details
We send neutral email alerts like 'You have a new match update. Please log in to view it.' We never include health details, mentor names, message text, treatment details, side effects, race, gender, location, or contact details in email.
Role-based access and audit logs
Administrators, program supervisors, and read-only auditors each have a different level of access designed for their role. Sensitive admin actions (CSV exports, deletions) are recorded in an audit log so Malecare can monitor program safety.
You control your data
You can update your intake answers at any time, and rerun matching. When you update, your old answers are overwritten. You can also request deletion of your account; once an administrator confirms deletion, your records are permanently removed.
HIPAA-ready by design
Although peer support is not formal healthcare, we design the platform to HIPAA-ready standards: encrypted storage, secure login, role-based access, audit logs, and admin-controlled deletion. Vendor compliance is reviewed before any production use involving protected health information.
